Gates of the Arctic is one of, if not the, most unique parks in the entire National Park System. Being both a visitor's attraction and a preservation for the indigenous folk who already live there,it must maintain a steady balance of wonder and sufficiency. While creating an identity to make the park standout from it's brothers and sisters, native artwork was in constant reference.
The thick black borders and reserved use of color felt similar to the idea of a self-sufficiency lifestyle that the natives follow.
